چکیده

With the aim of improving the rejection of surface beta contamination on the CDMS ZIP detector, we have studied the effectiveness of our phonon pulse-shape discrimination by matching a Monte Carlo calculation to data from a 350mm long Al fin with W TESs (Transition-Edge Sensors) at both ends. From this fit, we determined the Al film diffusivity to be DAl 1⁄4 0:010 0:001m=s, the quasiparticle trapping length in the Al fin to be ltrap 1⁄4 180 10mm, and the Al to W TES transmission to be f Al=W 1⁄4 0:002 0:001. r 2005 Published by Elsevier B.V. A Testing Strategy for the Mass Production of CDMS II Detectors

The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) employs detectors which are capable of simultaneously measuring the ionization and phonon energies deposited by a particle collision. These detectors are 1-cm-thick, 7-cm-diameter crystals of either germanium or silicon with a thin film of aluminum and tungsten patterned on the surface. This presentation discusses the testing regimen that a typical CDMS d...

Position Dependence in the CDMS II ZIP Detectors

The Ge and Si detectors developed by the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS) II experiment rely on the simultaneous detection of athermal phonons and ionization produced by interactions in the crystal. The athermal phonons not only provide the total energy deposited during an interaction, but also carry information about the position of the interaction. We describe extracting this information f...

Detector commissioning for the CDMS-II final run at the Soudan Underground Laboratory

CDMS-II uses detectors known as Z-sensitive ionization phonons (ZIPs) to search for weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs), a very promising candidate for the dark matter in the universe. The most recent data run utilized 12 ZIP detectors (six Ge and six Si) running for 1 2 year at the Soudan deep underground laboratory (780m below surface), resulting in the current world’s highest sensit...

Calculation of the X-Ray Spectrum of a Mammography System with Various Voltages and Different Anode-Filter Combinations Using MCNP Code

Introduction One of the best methods in the diagnosis and control of breast cancer is mammography. The importance of mammography is directly related to its value in the detection of breast cancer in the early stages, which leads to a more effective treatment. The purpose of this article was to calculate the X-ray spectrum in a mammography system with Monte Carlo codes, including MCNPX and MCNP5...

Mechanical Characteristics and Failure Mechanism of Nano-Single Crystal Aluminum Based on Molecular Dynamics Simulations: Strain Rate and Temperature Effects

Besides experimental methods, numerical simulations bring benefits and great opportunities to characterize and predict mechanical behaviors of materials especially at nanoscale. In this study, a nano-single crystal aluminum (Al) as a typical face centered cubic (FCC) metal was modeled based on molecular dynamics (MD) method and by applying tensile and compressive strain loadings its mechanical ...
